City of Bel Aire

Boards and Commissions

Boards and Commissions serve a vital role in Bel Aire government. City Council members or the Mayor appoint citizens to serve, tapping into the expertise of the community and offering another opportunity for citizens to impact public policy. Due to the wide range of issues that the City must deal with, Boards and Commissions are charged with various tasks and duties. If you are a citizen of Bel Aire and would be interested in serving in an advisory position please contact City Hall at (316) 744-2451 and we will be happy to direct you to the correct contact.

Planning Commission

The primary role of the planning commission is to hear applications and petitions related to City planning and zoning. Working closely with the City Building Inspector, the Planning Commission reviews building permits, zoning variances, and other related land use or building issues.

Economic Development Advisory Board

The Economic Development Advisory Board works on strategies to enhance the image of the city and improve the business climate in the community. The projects of the Board include a communication study, advising on the City's website, working on marketing materials, actively participating in the branding process and many other activities.

Park & Recreation Advisory Board

The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board recommends actions and policies regarding the use of green space and recreational activities. The board serves as a sounding board for citizen recommendations and new policies.

Water Resources Board

Board members work with City Officials to develop policies and recommendations regarding water and natural resource use. Recent projects have included revising the Utility policy for the City, drafting conservation measures and providing input on sewer rate studies.

Tree Board

Tree Board members work to insure that the City maintains its position as a leader in environmentally friendly practices. Continuing the tradition of environmental stewardship, one of the Tree Board's responsibilities is to secure the City's Tree City USA designation. For over 12 years, the City of Bel Aire has met or exceeded the requirements for the Tree City USA program, a signal of the long standing environmental commitment of our residents.
